The Medlite C 6 is also one of the very best lasers available for the reduction/removal of melasma. Melasma is a skin pigmentation problem, mostly seen in women, in which melanocytes (skin cells that make brownish pigment) proliferate, thereby producing brownish spots/macules on the face. Typically they can be found on the forehead, above the upper lip, next to the eyes and on the cheeks. They may be caused by hormones (pregnancy and/or birth control pills), medications and, overwhelmingly, by excessive sun exposure without appropriate sunblock. Melasma does not cause cancer but is often found to be unsightly by those affected by it. In addition to laser treatment using the MedLite-C6, specialized, compounded, topical creams may be prescribed that will assist in greatly reducing or completely removing melasma.
